South Africa's playground, KwaZulu-Natal has spectacular mountain ranges, miles and miles of golden beaches, battlefields and some of the best game reserves in the country. Every June and July, hundreds of thousands of sardines make their way up the coast, getting trapped in bays and coves, they beach themselves and create much excitement at this natural extravaganza.

Victoria and botanical gardens
The Victoria Street Market, on the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets in Durban, is rather like stepping into another world, with its blend of all things Indian and African. Spices and incense rent the air in which more than 170 stalls display their wares.
The Vic, as the Victoria Market is now known, is set in a huge building that resembles something out of a Maharajah’s story. The ornate structure is a humming place in which to buy anything in the way of food and spices (the delight of varying coloured varieties come by the barrel), including a fish market downstairs - if it's beauty you are after, make for Durban's nature sanctuaries or parks. The Botanical Gardens are of particular interest - ask about their 'Music by the Lake' evenings - wonderful music played by KZN's Philharmonic Orchestra in wonder surrounds..
