29 day tour Namibia/Botswana

Day 1: flight 

flight to Johannesburg. Overnight at the airport.

Day 2: Windhoek
Flight from Johannesburg (2 hours) to Windhoek in the early morning. Arriving around 8.40 pm. Wynand and Margaret will pick you by bus and trailer, ready to drive you to downtown Windhoek, where we book into the cozy lodge. In the afternoon we do site seeing through Windhoek. 
Windhoek is the capital of Namibia, located in the middle of the country.   
With 230,000 inhabitants it is even smaller city like Enschede, Apeldoorn and New York, the city is easily to be explored by foot. The town's name derives from Winter Corner, the farm where Nama leader Jonker an Afrikaner was born.
Since 1981 the capital of Windhoek, Namibia. The center is a mix of German colonial buildings painted in bright pastel modern buildings. Striking is the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Art Nouveau style. In addition, the Alte Feste (old fort) to visit. It was designed by a Dutch architect, you will see too much buildings, train stations and everywhere else, as you will find in the Netherlands.

Day 3-4 Sossusvlei - 310 km
Along the Atlantic coast is an incredibly beautiful nature reserve: Sossusvlei , the most famous spot in the Namib Naukluft Park . Twisted between two deserts, the Namib in the west and the Kalahari in the east, the dry southern region offers breathtaking scenery. The Namib-Naukluft Park is the most diverse areas in Namibia and one of the major tourist destinations of the country. Sossusvlei is definitely a highlight of your visit to Namibia! In the area of life including the Hartmann zebra, kudu, gemsbok , klipspringer, duiker, ibex, leopard, baboon, jackal, fox, wild cat, caracal and aardwolf. Naukluft's steep cliffs are nesting grounds for several species of breeding birds, including the Black Eagle.

Day 5-6 Swakopmund - 350 km 
The coastal town of Swakopmund is the second largest city in Namibia.
It is an old European city that dates from the time of the German colonialists. In the city there are still many German influences can be seen, many people still speak German, and sometimes even street names in German.
The town has wide boulevards with palm trees and parks for the residents. Swakopmund has many restaurants and bars, supermarkets and shops.
Just outside Swakopmund dunes are a number reserved for recreational purposes. Here you can sand-boarding , skiing, on a quad bike ride through the desert, camel rides and "off-road driving".
You may also book boat trips on the ocean for dolphin and seal spotting.
There is also a wilderness excursion where under the guidance of an expert guide about the desert of Namib Naukluft.

Day 7: Twyfelfontein (Damaraland) - 330 km 
Twyfelfontein (Damaraland) is a national monument that one of the world's most interesting collections of rock carvings houses.
About 2500 petroglyphs are painted 6000 years ago by the San bushmen. Since 1952, the rock carvings a national monument. People are still working to Twyfelfontein on the World Heritage list in turn.

Day 08-09-10 Day Etosha National Park - 330 km 
Etosha National Park, also known as "Great White Place", is the largest park in Africa and has been founded in 1907.
The park is located in the north of Namibia and is almost as large as the Netherlands. Much of the park consists of a vast salt plain.
The park is best to visit at the end of winter. This is the time when the animals gather around the water holes and water areas and easier to find. Sometimes you will find large herds of elephants and black rhinos.

Day 11 Grootfontein - 220 km
We stop in Grootfontein to the distance limited today to keep a little rest, walking, relaxing, ...
If you'd rather do something active, we can see if we have time to visit a San Bushman Village.

Day 12 Divundu (Popa Falls) - 400 km
About 20 km under Divundu, near Popa Falls , Ndovu Safari Lodge is situated on the banks of the Okavango River and Caprivi Game Park overlooking ( Bwabwata National Park ). 
To sleep in a good safari tradition in a luxury safari tent. The tents have a deck on the river, where you are very close to hippos and crocodiles... There is a house boat for an evening river cruise (optional).

Days 13-14 Caprivi Strip - 220 km
After a morning game drive in an open jeep through Bwabwata National Park, we drive in the afternoon through the narrow Caprivi Strip, where Angola and Namibia Botswana "enclose". 
At the lodge you can choose how to spend the second day: rest; a boat cruise and game drive are optional bookings.

Day 15-16 Houseboat Safaris Chobe National Park - 130 km
About 2 hours in the afternoon we check in on the Pride of Zambesi, a luxury houseboat, which we first Botswanan to "ground" (or rather water) come. We go two days on the river safaris on Chobe River, where the dry season the elephants en masse to the river drink! from the three decks you can, elephants look for antelope, crocodiles, hippos and anything that walks around in Chobe National Park . At sunset puts the boat, you can enjoy the Sfrikaanse drabkje a sunset and a little later will honor and 3 course dinner. After a good night's sleep in your ensuite cabin, we get up early for breakfast and a game drive with guide in one of the smaller boats. Around 11 hours is brunch, and agrees with the large boat on the park invaart (as you might from your cabin a little siesta in the cabin passes by your landscapes ... In the afternoon, pulling back with the small boats path are gone. "evening another aperitif at sunset and dinner.

Day 17-18 Kasane (Victoria Falls)
In the morning sails Pride of the Zambezi to the starting point, we check around 10.30. 
A short drive to Kasane, where we spend the rest of the day easy. Day 18 we take a day trip to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe to the side. By visiting the local market.

Nata Day 19 - 310 km
Today we drive on a bad road to Nata, where we sleep in (simple) safari tents. If we have enough time (and sense), we can have to Nata Bird Sanctuary.

Day 20-21 Gweta (Makgadikgadi Pans) 
Around the lodge are huge baobab trees and termietenheuevels and here is a great opportunity to walk in the early afternoon. By the end of the afternoon we take a quad bike (self drive) or 4x4 to open the Makgadikgadi salt pans. We see perhaps more cats (Meerkats), zebra, jackal, antelope, ... After a cozy wood fire dinner we spent the night under the stars on the salt pans in a kind of mattress-bedding! A unique experience ...

Day 22 Maun - 200 km
After the simple breakfast, we drive back to the lodge, where we pick up the stuff and possibly some more after breakfast, on the road to Maun. 
We can see tourist spot and the local market / supermarket visits. At night a traditional dinner in the lodge prepared.

Days 23-24 Okavango Delta - FLY IN
Today we depart from the airport of Maun (small, but one of the busiest in the world!) To Xugana Island Camp (16 persons) or Camp Okavango (24 people). During the flight over the Okavango (usually no higher than 500 meters), you can spot herds of elephants! 
Both camps are located in the Delta on an island ... an ideal base for a quietride mokoro (traditional canoe safari). In addition, there motorboat safaris offered and bush walks around the island. Meals are served in the outdoor boma. All in all, a luxury once-in-a-lifetime experience and a must if the Okavango Delta is on your wish list!

Ghanzi Day 25 - 250 km
About 10 hours we are back at the airport in Maun, where we pick up the bus again. We leave to Ghanzi where we overnight in a simple hotel.

Gobabis Day 26-27 - 350 km
Again, the final stop on this awesome journey ... Sandun is a 4600 hectare game farm with 1000 species of animals (13 species) in the Kalahari. You can for one last time (night) game drive, go for walks or just relax at the waterhole. The site also live traditional San Bushmen ... learn how the first nomadic people of Africa trace search, gathering food, dancing and crafts , truly a beautiful and unforgettable final.

Day 28 Windhoek
We drive back to Windhoek where the late afternoon flight to Johannesburg departs. Late in the evening you will fly from Johannesburg to Amsterdam.
