The South & West Cape

Suburbs of Cape Town have with its fine houses in old Dutch and British Victorian style. Create a walk through the city centre, to the Castle of good hope, Green market Square and visit the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. A trip to the table mountain, Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned in (SAT), Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, great Constantia, Cape of good hope and Boulder's Beach, with its African penguins a must, of course, not in your travel planning.
Hermanus is known as the best location in the world to whales. Each year, attracting around 40 to 70 animals from the sub-Antarctic waters to the Bay to calve. There are Whales, including between June and December, the best months are September and October.

The Garden route

The region between the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains, stretching from Mossel Bay beyond the Storms River. The coast is in no way violent and can be toggled off, but with beautiful rocks, wooded slopes and fine sand beaches.

KwaZulu Natal

Natal is the smallest and most populated province of South Africa and to the West, bounded by the Drakensberg. Here you can find summits of over 3,000 m, by the Zulus uKhahlamba district municipality (barrier of javelins). The original inhabitants were the bushman (San), this peaceful hunters-gatherers 1000 years ago were gradually expelled by Zulu's, Xhosa, Afrikaner and British. Durban is the main attraction for tourists with it's beaches and UShaka world marine park.

Mpumalanga/Eastern Transvaal (The Panorama route)

Transvaal through The Long Tom-Pass to Sabie, the small town of Lydenburg, you will find several waterfalls, Pilgrim's Rest, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes in the Blyde River and the Nature Reserve, a botanical paradise, with many rare plants and an abundance of wild animals. The vegetation is particularly interesting: wild orchids and lilies and aloes.

The Kruger park

The Kruger National Park 19,000 square km is great. This is the largest and the oldest African Hluhluwe after Park with 138 species of mammals, 500 species of birds and over 100 species of reptiles. The most prominent place to the Big five personality traits to play around!
In this expanses and world-famous National park, in the North-East of South Africa, there is a wide variety of wildlife. The southern section is the most wild. Johannesburg, Pretoria, Gauteng

Pretoria Today, the city of Tshwane metropolitan municipality (Jacaranda City) is the political capital of South Africa and was the birthplace of Paul Kruger, the first President of the Transvaal. All his houses are now museums.
In the city of Pretoria (Tshwane) provides several attractions such as the Old Gathering hall, the Cultural Museum, the City Hall, the Union buildings (Government), and the Pretoria Art Museum.

Is it really safe?

There are many "Untrue" (stories) that is been told about South African countries, it is often not less safe than, say, in the evening in Amsterdam. An exception is perhaps the large cities, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town in a minor degree and Windhoek. Additionally, of course, common sense: take a taxi in the evening to show you around. poverty in some regions is great, so let's not tempt people.

Language

English (business), Afrikaans , African (administrative, similar to English) and 9 other official languages, including IsiZulu, isiXhosa, siSwati and isiNdebele are collectively referred to as the Nguni languages, and have many similarities in syntax and grammar. The Sotho languages - Setswana, Sepedi and Sesotho - also have much in common.
According to historical data, many of South Africa's indigenous tribes share a common ancestry. But as groupings and clans broke up in search of autonomy and greener pastures for their livestock, variations of the common languages evolved.

Climate and best travel time

South Africa has a wonderful climate throughout the year with the lovely warm sunshine. Because the country lies on the southern hemisphere, the seasons are opposite to those of Europe, making it an ideal destination for winter here to escape and enjoy the South African summer (October to February). For the observation of wild animals are the clear, dry days of South Africa in winter, the best (April-September), if the few vegetation makes it easier to see the animals.
Cape Town and the southern portion of the Western Cape have a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and winters while Durban and the coast of KwaZulu-Natal subtropical, with plenty of sunshine throughout the year.

Practical

Do not let this country fool you. This truly worth spending your money. Camping and driving with a 4X4 is the cheapest way and more adventurous. Travelling by airplane and stay in the delta could cost you a lot of money, but still worth every cent.

For South Africa, you need a visa. You will receive it automatically and free of charge at the point of entry to your passport should. 6 weeks after you go back home. A visa is valid for 3 months and requires 2 blank pages in your Passport.

History

VOC

The written history begins in South Africa on 6 April 1648-1652, when Jan van Riebeeck in the service of the VOC founded in the Cape of good hope. The area with Dutch settlers as it became later, during the 17th and 18th century fades away, East to the Fish River.

British regime

In 1795 the British occupation of the region around the Cape of good hope, gave it back to the Dutch. But in 1806 names for the Britain’s of the Cape. There was disagreement between the British and Dutch farmers, inter alia, on the compensation for the abolition of slavery in 1833. Many of the Dutch and German (and Huguenots) settlers, known as Farmers, in the years 1830-1840 in the so-called Great Trek from the Cape Colony, they declare it the independent republics, which were United in the Orange Free State and the Transvaal. An attempt by the Farmers to Natal, NATO was turned down by the Zulus, under Dingaan the brother of the famous Shaka. It was mainly his wars that had other strains so weakened that farmers were able to keep their advancement. The Zulus were later defeated by the British.
In 1867 the diamonds were discovered in Kimberley on the border of the Orange Free State. Gold was in 1886 at the Witwatersrand found in the Transvaal. This led to a flood of white immigrants and wealth for the Transvaal. The Farmers are opposed to interference by the British, won the first Boer War (1880-, 1881), but were defeated in the Second Boer War (1899-1902).
